He became a chemist, like his father, during the French Revolution.
Napoleon named him Personal Pharmacist of the Emperor in 1804, then made him Knight of the French Empire on July 15, 1810.
Charles-Louis Cadet de Gassicourt died in Paris on November 21, 1821.
His tomb is located in Pere Lachaise cemetery, Paris (39th division).
